Capturing honesty.
Elevating stories.

Squamish & Vancouver based lifestyle & Portrait Photographer

I work in the space between unposed and intentional, where honesty and meaning meet.

My approach is documentary at its core, shaped by years in creative direction. I’m always holding both at once. The human side, and the considered one. Paying attention not just to what’s unfolding, but why it matters.

Whether it’s a campaign, a growing brand, or something deeply personal, the focus is the same. Connection. Work that feels honest, emotionally grounded, and rooted in real moments.

If that resonates, you’re in the right place.

A documentary approach.

I’m drawn to what’s real. The small gestures, the in-between moments, the quiet energy that lives between people.

Whether I’m photographing a portrait, a campaign, or everyday life through a brand’s lens, I bring the same documentary mindset, led by presence and intuition. My aim is to create imagery that feels rooted in truth and emotionally grounded, immersive glimpses of the human experience that stay with you long after the moment has passed.

  • "Kateland's work ethic and ease to work with is second to none! Her skills behind the lens are phenomenal, she understands what is needed to capture a specific moment. We will absolutely be working with Kateland again."

Jon Oldale / Marketing Director, Marin Bikes

  • "Kateland was a dream to work with. She did a phenomenal job of making folks feel comfortable, and as a result, captured authentic and natural images. Her keen eye for design and strong aesthetic sensibilities shone through in the photos. We were blown away by both the variety and quality of the final gallery."

Marie Gosal, Executive Design Director, Engine Digital

  • "Kateland is exceptional. She has a unique style of co-creating the experience through direction, collaboration, and playful experimentation. As someone accustomed to being behind the camera and giving direction, I found that she was able to co-create a vision, making her subjects feel completely at home in front of her lens."

    Jennifer Bourne / Art Director

  • "Kateland's years of experience as a Creative Director are a huge plus, as she’s able to really envision the wider goals of a campaign, as well as collaborate effectively with clients. She truly cares about the subjects and goes out of her way to make everyone feel comfortable. We can’t wait to work with her again!"

Chloe Jung, Art Director, Pound & Grain

  • "How do you capture a feeling? How do you capture a moment perfectly? Kateland was able to capture precisely that. Her photos are absolutely lovely and I was extremely pleased with the results."

    Melanie Wong / Portrait Client

  • "I’ve worked with many photographers over the years and Kateland is one of the best. She is engaging and observant at the right moments and has the special ability to capture that fleeting moment of beauty and emotion."

Behind
the lens.

I’m Kateland. A photographer based in Squamish and Vancouver.

Before this, I spent fifteen years shaping visual stories for brands and campaigns. That experience still lives in how I see. There’s always an awareness of the bigger picture, while staying grounded in the moment in front of me.

I care about the details. The quiet ones, especially. And how they build into something larger.

I’m drawn to working with people who care about what they’re putting into the world. People building something meaningful, thoughtful, or quietly powerful.

Values in focus.

Authenticity

I value honesty above almost everything else. In life and in my work, I’m drawn to what feels genuine over what feels polished. I want the people I photograph to feel comfortable enough to simply be themselves.

Creativity

Creativity has always been how I make sense of the world. It fuels my curiosity, shapes my perspective, and allows me to tell stories in a way that feels thoughtful and emotionally grounded.

Vulnerability

Some of the most meaningful moments happen when people stop performing. I see vulnerability as a quiet kind of courage, and it’s something I try to honour and hold carefully within my work.

Inclusivity

Inclusivity is deeply important to me. I care about creating work where people feel seen, respected, and represented with care, while also using my photography to help amplify underrepresented voices and stories.
